This would include providing a small parking area on the existing footprint of the driveway and constructing an accessible, low-profile viewing area. The Wild Rose hatchery is a cool- and cold-water facility that raises brown and rainbow trout, coho and chinook salmon, Great Lakes spotted muskellunge, walleye and lake sturgeon. While the public comment period has ended, anyone with potentially viable land exchange opportunities may still reach out to refuge staff at (see below and this page for specific land exchange criteria). To maintain the house in perpetuity would strain the refuge's limited resources at the expense of wildlife conservation and other visitor needs.
